This article investigates the intersection between music, creativity, and resilience through the life experience of Risomá, a double bassist with the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA), who was diagnosed with cancer. Using an ethnographic approach, we explore how creative agency emerged as a tool for survival and the maintenance of purpose during the course of his treatment. The analysis focuses on the initiative "Café sem Compromisso" ("Casual Coffee"), a weekly gathering created by the musician, which became a space for mutual support and artistic expression for friends also facing health challenges. The findings suggest that creativity transcended the role of emotional refuge, acting as a catalyst for the reinterpretation of life and the development of new social and musical practices, highlighting the transformative power of music in the human journey.
